GARDEN REACH SLUM DEVELOPMENT (GRSD) started its journey
towards community social work in the 1970s with a meager economy with
dynamic volunteer youth in the periphery of Kolkata Metropolitan Area. It
is a registered NGO registered under West Bengal Societies Registration
Act, 1961 working for the poorer society covering vulnerable groups,
destitute, persons with disabilities, poorer community women and
children and made them priority with education, shelter, health facilities
and livelihood options followed by vocational trainings in major
marketable opportunities.
Our organization is working with more than 12000 children, 2500
community women, health workers, community volunteer youths having
partnership with various Govt. Organisations, Offices, Foreign Donor
Agencies and local benevolent and stakeholders.
The demographic area coverage of the organization are Kolkata
Metropolitan Area, South 24 Parganas which include Garden Reach,
Maheshtala, Diamond Harbour, Sonarpur, Baruipur, Uttar Dainazpur ,
Malda and other adjacent areas.
The mission of the organization is to enhance the quality of life of the
destitute children and women, poorer adolescent girls through livelihood
options and vocational trainings along with non-formal Education..
ORGANISATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
• & Empower Women & Community
• To be an intellectual force fighting against the evils of unjust society.
• Ensure human rights to women & children.
• To Educate the communities through awareness building programme,
training of various topics and about environment, sanitation, Health
and Hygiene, Education.
• Welfare of women & children of the worker sections of the society through
functional Education and increase literacy rate of slum and pavement
dwellers both adult and Child.
• To provide opportunities for women to organize them in viable SocioEconomic activities and thereby create condition for increased participation
by them in the Community development activities.
• To organize voluntary Self-Help groups for tackling specific civic or other
problems.
• To help, on the basis of studies in establishing and running educational
centre, vocation training centers or Industrial centres, health centres,
co-operative or Group economic activities not in consistent with the aims
and objects of the Garden Reach Slum Development.
• To create awareness for the prevention of Drug abuse, HIV/Aids and to
make people aware of Drug addition in the same fashion as HIV/Aids
campaign is going on.
• To raise consciousness through cultural action (drama, meeting, pamphlets,
cultural shows etc.) and to organize physical, cultural, indoor & outdoor
games, band party, sports and other type of amusement.
• To open centres for the distribution among the poverty, any needy persons,
food grains, clothes, medicine and other articulate necessities.
• To observe the birthday or great man of the country, Independence day,
Republic day, New year day, and other in order to uplift the morality of the
people of the locality.
